COURSE OBJECTIVE:

This course is necessary for mastering students the theory and practice of the main dental manipulations, initial professional skills of the dentist for further training at clinical dental departments. Potential themes to be addressed:

·        the principle of work on the dental equipment with use of tools and dental materials;

·        medical ethics and deontology;

·        the basic methods  of dental patient examination;

·        the main professional manual  skills of the dentist  on the dental phantom.

 

COURSE OUTCOMES:

a)     Students will know:

·        The equipment of the dental office. Tools. Sterilization in dentistry.

·        A structure of solid tissues of tooth.

·        Rules for filling of the "Medical chart of the dental patient's". Deontology.

·        The concept of major dental diseases.

·        Know the principles of treatment of hard tissues of teeth diseases.

·        Individual drugs used in dentistry.

·        The concept of the caries. Classification of cavities by Black. Preparation of carious cavities.

·        Endodontic instruments, their purpose and sequence of use.

 

b)    Students will be able to:

·   Use basic principles of medical ethics and deontology.

·        Note the "Medical chart of the dental patient's".

·        To dissect carious cavity by Black  on the  removed teeth.

·    Basic principles of medical ethics and deontology.

·        The basic methods of dental patient examination.

·        Preparation of carious cavities.

·        Run the steps in the treatment of all groups of teeth on the dental phantoms.

 

METHODOLOGY:  

·     lectures and the presentation of visual materials (slides, videos);

·    сlinical practical classes;

·          written works (cospaper, reports, presentation);

·          individual extra-curricular student’s work including the educational platform "MOODLE";

·          Visual materials (videos)

 

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

There is a written test on the assigned topic at the beginning of each class. There is an oral quiz on the assigned topic  at each class. Each class evaluation of the implementation of notes and drawings on the theme, preparation of training materials on the platform МООDLE, control of practical skills.  At the end of the course the students take the final credit. The final credit will consist of 3 stages:

1. Writing credit by tickets (the list of issues in open access on the MOODLE platform).

2. Computer testing.

3. credit for practical skills.

 

GRADING: Grading is based on individual progress. That progress will be based on the following:

50% - writing credit by tickets ;

30% - computer test;

20% - practical skills credit.
